    Librarian's Stereotypes and Social Role in the cinematographic discourse

    El tema de la representación cinematográfica de los bibliotecarios ha despertado interés en el campo de la bibliotecología, ya que aporta elementos para su estudio en las áreas de liderazgo, educación bibliotecológica, función social de los bibliotecarios, estudios de género, entre otros. En este artículo se presentan dos miradas sobre los bibliotecarios representados en el cine: una de ellas está relacionada con los estereotipos físicos y sus actitudes psicológicas; la otra es sobre los roles sociales, valores, virtudes, temas de género y también situaciones humorísticas que desempeñan, así como los elementos simbólicos que prevalecen en el imaginario social. Todos estos aspectos se identificaron en las diferentes películas en las que se basa el presente análisis.Reel librarians representation is an issue that has awakened the interest of librarianship field because it provides different elements for leadership and direction studies, librarianship education, librarian's social function, and gender studies, among others. This paper shows two views upon reel librarians representation: the first one is related to physical stereotypes and their psychological attitude; the other one is about librarians social role, values, virtues, gender issues, and humorous situations that they play, as well as symbolic elements which prevail through the social imagery.     Multiple Object Tracking in Urban Traffic Scenes with a Multiclass Object Detector

    Multiple object tracking (MOT) in urban traffic aims to produce the trajectories of the different road users that move across the field of view with different directions and speeds and that can have varying appearances and sizes. Occlusions and interactions among the different objects are expected and common due to the nature of urban road traffic. In this work, a tracking framework employing classification label information from a deep learning detection approach is used for associating the different objects, in addition to object position and appearances. We want to investigate the performance of a modern multiclass object detector for the MOT task in traffic scenes. Results show that the object labels improve tracking performance, but that the output of object detectors are not always reliable.Comment: 13th International Symposium on Visual Computing (ISVC

    Strategic planning research through fifty years of Long Range Planning: a bibliometric overview

    Long Range Planning (LRP) is the first journal focused on strategic planning. It was created in 1968 by the Long Range Planning Society, and it celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018. This event led to the presentation of a complete bibliometric study aimed at identifying the most significant results that occurred in the journal during this period. For this purpose, bibliometric data were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database, and two bibliometric approaches were used to analyze the journal's publications: a performance analysis and a graphical mapping of the literature. The first of these uses a wide range of productivity and influence indicators that include the number of publications and citations, the h-index, and citations by paper, among others. The second approach uses the VOSviewer software to deliver a graphical view of the various intellectual connections within LRP. The results of both bibliometric approaches are consistent and confirm LRP as a leading journal in strategic planning and management, with increasing participation of authors and universities from countries around the world

    Interaction between elevated co2 and organic matter on bacterial metabolismo

    Aquatic Sciences Meeting (Aquatic Sciences: Global And Regional Perspectives - North Meets South), 22-27 February 2015, Granada, Spain.Microcosm experiments to assess bacterioplankton response to autochthonous inputs of organic matter modified by future acidified ocean conditions were performed. Surface seawater enriched with inorganic nutrients and incubated in UVR-transparent cubitainers was bubbled for 8 days with regular air (380 ppmv CO2) or with a high CO2-air mixture (1000 ppmv CO2) to be used as inocula. In the second phase of the experiment, natural bacterioplankton communities enriched with the acidified or non-acidified organic matter inocula were incubated under dark conditions during 8 days in the presence or absence of CO2 as previously. Bacterial abundance, production and viability were measured as physiological indicators of bacterial metabolism. The results showed that acidified organic matter produced higher abundances for similar production rates early during the incubation, while non-acidified organic matter produced higher bacterial production and viability latter at the end of the experiment, indicating a more recalcitrant character of the organic matter under these conditions. We demonstrate that CO2 effects on bacterioplankton are mainly due to indirect effects on organic matter characteristics rather than to direct effects of acidification on bacteria metabolism.N

    Paving the road for flipped teaching in Spanish universities

    Spanish university lecturers have traditionally spent most of their contact time with students explaining theory in the classroom. Once the theoretical contents have been presented, lecturers demonstrate (with little or no student participation) several reinforcing examples and practical exercises. Student involvement only occurs when they are asked to perform a series of tasks and exercises after the lesson and generally outside the classroom. Active learning methodologies have been proven to significantly enhance the teaching-learning process, and fortunately, Spanish universities are increasingly promoting these approaches. Among these active learning methodologies, flip teaching is one of the most frequently adopted teaching strategies. However, the introduction of flip teaching poses challenges and requires a radical change of mentality from lecturers and students. To succeed, participants must abandon former work habits and work on the theoretical concepts outside the classroom, while significantly increasing the degree of interaction inside and outside the classroom. Lecturers must spearhead this process of change, but success can only be achieved with student involvement. This paper shows how flip teaching was implemented in a subject within the MSc in Project Management course at the Universitat Politècnica de València. Emphasis is given to active teaching strategy and the three basic components on which it relies: students, faculty, and the teaching learning methodology. Results and conclusions extend the discussion and provides some guidelines on facilitating the (necessary) adoption of this and other active learning methodologies in Spanish universities

    How Donor and Surgical Factors Affect the Viability and Functionality of Human Hepatocytes Isolated From Liver Resections

    Liver resections are a significant source of primary human hepatocytes used mainly in artificial liver devices and pharmacological and biomedical studies. However, it is not well known how patient-donor and surgery-dependent factors influence isolated hepatocytes’ yield, viability, and function. Hence, we aimed to analyze the impact of all these elements on the outcome of human hepatocyte isolation. Patients and methods: Hepatocytes were isolated from liver tissue from patients undergoing partial hepatectomy using a two-step collagenase method. Hepatocyte viability, cell yield, adhesion, and functionality were measured. In addition, clinical and analytical patient variables were collected and the use or absence of vascular clamping and its type (continuous or intermittent) plus the ischemia times during surgery. Results: Malignant disease, previous chemotherapy, and male gender were associated with lower hepatocyte viability and isolation cell yields. The previous increase in transaminases was also associated with lower yields on isolation and lower albumin production. Furthermore, ischemia secondary to vascular clamping during surgery was inversely correlated with the isolated hepatocyte viability. An ischemia time higher than 15 min was related to adverse effects on viability. Conclusion: Several factors correlated with the patient and the surgery directly influence the success of human hepatocyte isolation from patients undergoing liver resection
